Mayor is wasting two vital years in tackling pollution in London - Mike Tuffrey
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 5th Oct 2009
Mike Tuffrey, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the Mayor's decision to implement the third phase of London's low emission zone from 2012 said:
"With 3,000 people dying prematurely due to London's poor air quality there are three thousand reasons why the Mayor was wrong to delay the third phase of London's Low Emission Zone."
"The Mayor should not be claiming credit for something that should have never been cancelled in the first place. Due to the Mayor procrastinating we will now waste two vital years to improve London's air quality in the run up to the Olympics."
